For more information about the Abstract Screening Committee, please contact Teresa Homrich.
Volunteers play a vital role in supporting the dynamic scientific programming that goes on at AAPS all year round. Together, these individuals each contribute time and creative energy into planning and preparing in different ways. One such committee- the Abstract Screening Committee, has the unique task of screening poster abstract submissions that are later presented at the National Biotechnology Conference in the spring and PharmSci 360 in the fall each year.
What is it like to serve on the ASC? Here's our interview with one current committee member about what it is like to serve on the Abstract Screening Committee.
The best part about being involved with this committee is…“working with other professionals from different disciplines. Ultimately, the goal is to deliver the best possible poster program for the attendees at AAPS conferences. You will see plenty of research from outside your immediate area of interest, which is challenging but offers many new insights, and helps to keep up with the latest developments in pharmaceutical sciences.”
What is the personal value of volunteering for the committee?
“Experiencing what is happening in the background in the run-up to a large international conference, networking opportunities with other volunteers, and accessing cutting edge science even before it is presented for the first time.”
What can someone expect when they serve on this committee?
“The support from AAPS staff, such as Teresa Homrich is fantastic. They are always available and go out of their way to help. One can also look forward to meeting peers with a huge diversity of background and expertise.”
Poster abstracts will be presented at the 2023 National Biotechnology Conference (NBC), which will be held in-person in Philadelphia, PA, April 23-26.
Thank you to Carsten Ehrhardt, current ASC committee member for providing these responses about what it is like to volunteer with the committee!
