It feels awful to admit, but a pet peeve of mine is being asked how I became a CSO by early career scientists. Truthfully, I take great pleasure in talking to young scientists, learning about their passions, and hopefully helping them consider options along their career path. But oftentimes I feel like I am being asked to provide a roadmap or checklist of skills and achievements that will lead to a spot in the C-suite.
This concerns and disheartens me.
