“Go in as your authentic self…you’re a person and a scientist.” So says Stacey Tannenbaum, Ph.D., in the April 7 episode of David Otey’s podcast The Power of Story and Science.
Otey shares that “[t]his is the episode that proves scientists are not all introverts! It was such a pleasure having Stacey on the show and hearing about the many creative ways she has helped encourage other scientists to share the story of their work. From graphic novels to game shows to lobster hats, our conversation touched on all kinds of creativity in science communication.”
This was Tannenbaum’s first podcast appearance, and she expressed thanks for “allowing [her] to nerd out on science communication, leadership, pharmacometrics, and of course, Toastmasters!”
Otey, a former engineer with degrees in physics and broadcasting, now works with scientists who want to give more effective presentations so they can secure funding, find collaborators, and expand their reputations. Read his most recent article in AAPS Newsmagazine, and attend his upcoming session The Art and Science of Connecting with your Audience at the virtual AAPS National Biotechnology Conference (NBC) in May 2021.
Tannenbaum is a senior director, leading the U.S. Pharmacometrics group at Astellas Pharma. A global leader in Pharmacometrics, she cofounded the International Society of Pharmacometrics, serving as its first president. She was also a Member-at-Large for the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) Board of Directors from 2015 to 2017.
The Power of Story and Science is a biweekly podcast available across all the popular podcast platforms, including Apple, Spotify, Podbean, and Stitcher, as well as in video on YouTube. More pharmaceutical scientists from the AAPS community will be featured in upcoming episodes, so make sure to subscribe to the podcast to hear them all.
