61st Annual Land O'Lakes Pharmaceutical Analysis Conference:
August 9-11, 2021
In partnership with
Patient-Centric Approaches in Drug Product Development
The Land O’ Lakes Conference on Pharmaceutical Analysis is well recognized as one of the premier teaching conferences for colleagues in the pharmaceutical industry. Attendees are primarily from the pharmaceutical industry but also include those affiliated with governmental agencies and academia.
This year’s conference offers a variety of perspectives exploring the theme Patient Centric Approaches in Drug Product Development. Featured presentations include:
- In Their Natural Habitat: Dosage Forms for Pediatric Patients, Rachel S. Meyers, PharmD, BCPS, BCPPS
Years have been spent developing a new medication for pediatric use. The Instructions for Use has been perfected after months of close scrutiny. Now the product is released. What happens to it? Do parents and healthcare providers administer it as instructed? Or are they making it up as they go along? In this session, we will discuss common problems with currently available pediatric dosage forms and what's done in real life to accommodate the needs of pediatric patients. Let us work together to create better, safer dosage forms for children.
- Approaches for Sensory Evaluation of Medicine Palatability, Alexander A. Bachmanov, Ph.D.
Many active pharmaceutical ingredients have unpleasant bitter taste, which can impede compliance with orally administered or inhaled formulations, especially in children. Ethical, legal and practical considerations limit use of humans for assessing palatability of drugs. Non-human approaches for sensory assessment help to predict palatability issues early in drug development, and to design mitigation strategies. In this webinar, human and non-human approaches for evaluation of medicine palatability are reviewed. A discussion of advantages and disadvantages of each approach and their applicability for detecting and mitigating palatability issues will be discussed.
- Pondering Product Packaging by Postulating Predictive Stability, Paul Gerst, M.S.
Have you ever wondered how or why a particular package is selected? Do bottle dimensions play a role? What about the packaging materials? How does the storage of a package to temperature and humidity impact the stability of the product? This presentation will examine the application of predictive stability studies to the selection of appropriate packages for solid oral drug products. Understanding the sensitivity of a product to moisture is important in ensuring the quality of the product remains within its shelf life.
