Dear AAPS members–

Of all the things that bring us together at AAPS, our shared scientific field is foundational. We come together to exchange knowledge, discuss challenging scientific questions, and ultimately hope to accelerate the development and distribution of life-saving medicines to patients' bedsides around the globe. While the 21st century has brought us many new ways to communicate our science-there has never been a more dynamic digital environment than recently-the publication of peer-reviewed scientific journal articles remains the benchmark by which we measure ourselves as scientists. AAPS greatly values publishing high quality, innovative research and reviews in our peer-reviewed journals, and our wonderful editors-in-chief (@Ho-Leung Fung, @Robert Williams, and @Tonglei Li), their editorial boards, and our publications team work very hard to maintain that excellence. It makes me extremely happy to share that Springer Nature recently recognized The AAPS Journal for its editorial excellence and ranked it in the top 10% of qualifying journals-what a wonderful recognition! I hope you will give a big shout-out to editor-in-chief @Ho-Leung Fung, as well as AAPS Publications Manager @Matt Baughman and AAPS Publications and Communications Director @Catherine Abbott for the wonderful work they do year-round to assure that AAPS publications are built on a foundation of excellence-THANK YOU!
As we continue to build on our commitment to excellence in scientific publications, I am happy to let you know that AAPS Open will soon be accepting publications again! Please join me in welcoming Andrea Allmendinger, Ph.D., from Roche, as the new AAPS Open editor-in-chief. Stay tuned for additional details from our publications team about the re-opening of the journal, submission details, and AAPS' continued commitment to open access publishing. As many of you know, AAPS is also very active in the book publishing space, and I want to welcome the new editor for our popular AAPS Introductions in the Pharmaceutical Sciences book series: @Claudio Salomon, Ph.D., from the National University of Rosario, Argentina. Claudio is also an editor for AAPS PharmSciTech and is currently leading the captivating theme Recent Advances on Drug Delivery Systems for Viral Infections.
Poster abstracts for the upcoming National Biotechnology Conference (NBC) are also now available to satisfy your biotechnology research intrigue. Browse through the abstracts ahead of time to prepare yourself for conversations with the authors during the conference. I very much look forward to the Special Poster Collections and want to thank @Annette Bak, @Chad Briscoe, @Meena Subramanyam, and @Andrew Vick for hosting them! The early registration deadline for NBC is April 20, so while you are thinking about staying up-to-date on research, make sure to register for NBC while you can save up to $200!
As spring continues, we are busy adding even more programming at AAPS. Have you noticed how rich our event calendar is for the month of April? Next week, my schedule includes the "Ask Us Anything About Immunogenicity Risk Assessments" session with experts @Paul Chamberlain, @Jochem Gokemeijer, Ph.D., @Vibha Jawa, Ph.D., @Brian Long, Ph.D., @Robin Marsden, and @Sophie Tourdot, Ph.D., on Monday, April 12 at 11 am EDT in the AAPS Community. Given the topic, I expect a lively discussion! Also next week, we have the webinar Nanomedicines: Overcoming Delivery Challenges with Lipid and Polymeric Platform Technologies on Tuesday, April 13, and the eChalk Talk Pharmacokinetic assay – Ligand Binding assays for Large Molecules - Method Development and Validation on Wednesday, April 14.
All of these scientific resources-our journals, books, conferences, virtual events, and more-support AAPS' mission to help you-the pharmaceutical scientists-develop products and therapies that improve global health. If you are interested in actively engaging in the AAPS Strategic Plan implementation, please consider volunteering for the AAPS Horizon Planning Committee-the call for volunteers closes next week on April 14. Related, the AAPS Board of Directors will be discussing the upcoming Scientific Advisory Committee's composition at their next meeting on April 21. This will be an important development for AAPS' strategic roadmap implementation, so stay tuned for updates.
Spring is a busy time here at AAPS, and I hope you will continue to let our science inspire you to look up and ahead.
Tina
