Dear AAPS members–

This has been a truly inspiring week. A few of our most distinguished scientific volunteers have been hard at work reviewing the nominations for the coveted AAPS Fellow designation. Just like last year, I am humbled by the quality of the nominees, as well as the passion, the rigor, and the dedication that our committee volunteers, led by Chair @Patrick Sinko, poured into every single discussion and recommendation. It is also deeply reassuring to me yet again that our volunteer leaders do not take our science lightly-they are not just protecting, but also growing AAPS' strong scientific reputation.
We will announce the 2021 Fellows class and this year's AAPS Award recipients in the coming weeks. I am very excited for all of them! So many role models to inspire us!
To ensure AAPS stays abreast of best practices, and that our programs meet the highest standards of process and conduct while also serving us as a scientific society, we must occasionally take a step back and reexamine them. With that in mind, the AAPS Board of Directors is very pleased that former president and Fellow @Dale Eric Wurster has agreed to lead a task force that will review the AAPS Fellows Program. The goal is ensuring AAPS' renowned designation of "FAAPS" continues its distinction and fulfills its role in a continually evolving, competitive scientific landscape. Our Fellows can expect to be consulted by the task force-what do you think it means-or should mean-to be a Fellow today?
The Board of Directors is also mindful that scientific excellence is fed by a talent pipeline that draws on a large pool of individuals with many backgrounds and experiences. Narrow the pipeline unintentionally, and you risk narrowing the science, too. To ensure that AAPS is a welcoming organization to all scientists; that it provides a transparent, inclusive experience for all members; and that it creates equitable access to valuable, personal, and professional development opportunities for all members, the Board has seated a Diversity Equity Inclusion Committee. The Board is grateful to @Paul Fielder for taking on the important role of chairing this new group. You may remember him from this session at the 2020 PharmSci 360!
We are also starting the work of our Horizon Planning Committee under the leadership of incoming President @Annette Bak to assure that we stay on track with implementing the AAPS Strategic Plan. I am pleased to say we are already advancing Goal #3-Strengthen Strategic Networks and Partnerships to Expand AAPS' Global Reach. President @Andrew Vick and I were humbled to represent AAPS in front of nearly 4,000 delegates at DissoIndia2021 this past week! It was our great pleasure to celebrate both the Society for Pharmaceutical Dissolution Science's 10th Annual India conference, and AAPS' collaboration with the society on forthcoming meetings.
While participating in a panel with the world's experts on dissolution science, I was also happy to see many of them are longstanding members of AAPS. This particular area of science has been important to AAPS in a variety of ways, including advancing our international scientific dialogue.
In listening to the presentations, I was once again reminded of the increasing importance of data handling, transfer, and integrity in our world. I will definitely tune into next week's eChalk Talk Solution Towards a Vendor-Neutral Secure Data Transfer Process between LIMS/eLN and instruments for Bioanalysis with Cecilia Arfvidsson, and I am pretty sure that I will continue to follow this thread at the July Land O' Lakes Bioanalytical Conference in a few weeks.
Speaking of good things to come, the late-breaking poster abstracts deadline is sneaking up on us-July 21! So, don't plan a lazy beach weekend if we don't have your submission yet.
As I make my plans for the hazy summer days (so many journal articles to read by the pool!), I hope you will continue to let our science inspire you to look up and ahead.
Tina
