Dear AAPS members–

Things at AAPS are heating up to full steam as we enter the final stretch before our PharmSci 360 meeting!
@Mark Arnold and the entire Scientific Programming Committee have basically planned two complete and complementary experiences for you this year-one virtual and one in person. If you haven't registered yet, now is the time!
It makes me happy when the projects in our AAPS Communities carry forward into discussions at our meetings and then ultimately produce publications that help the wider scientific community. Currently several groups are leading discussions, conducting surveys, and actively seeking your input!
One discussion is focused on compendial dissolution testing requirements. As you likely know, the Chinese Pharmacopeia (ChP) has different requirements for dissolution testing than the U.S. Pharmacopoeia, European Pharmacopoeia, and Japanese Pharmacopoeia. This survey seeks to assess the awareness of such discrepancies between ChP and other pharmacopeias among AAPS members. AAPS will use the results of this survey to encourage discussion of the challenges posed by the differences in pharmacopeia requirements through sessions and articles. If this is your area of expertise, please participate in the survey and the discussions and events that may come from it!
Compliance with standards is challenging, but there is a continuing and growing need for standards, especially in key areas of biotherapeutics development. AAPS is currently collaborating with HESI on the development of a reference panel for use in immunogenicity or anti-drug antibody (ADA) assays. If you work in biotherapeutics, you know that therapeutic protein-induced ADAs can alter drug pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, leading to impaired efficacy and occasionally serious safety issues. There has been growing interest in the past decade in developing in vitro assays to assess the risk of unwanted immunogenicity during preclinical drug development, but standardization is still lacking. If you are interested in helping with this project, please participate in this survey, which will be the starting point for two collaborative studies that will be required for the development of this lyophilized mAb reference panel.
If you are looking for an engaging community discussion, there are many going on! Adjust the notification settings for your AAPS Communities digests so you do not miss any of them.
But if you'd rather sit back and enjoy an hour or two of education, we also have a webinar next week-it tackles digitalization in the laboratory: Where the Rubber Meets the Road: From Digital Dreams to Real Efficiency Gains. Pencil that in for your lunch time learning on September 14.
For your weekend reading, perhaps you will join me in digesting the AAPS Pharmaceutical Research Meritorious Manuscript Award winning article Elucidating the Mechanism of Absorption of Fast-Acting Insulin Aspart: The Role of Niacinamide by Kildegaard and colleagues. Yes, it is awards season at AAPS, and this is one of the winners! We announce a winner every Friday right now, so watch your email and social media channels, and join us in congratulating these scientists. I very much look forward to celebrating with our recipients in person this year in Philadelphia during PharmSci 360. Stay tuned for more announcements on that, and in the meantime, I hope you continue to let our science inspire you to look up and ahead.
