AAPS publishes first two books in newest book series.

The AAPS Introductions in the Pharmaceutical Sciences book series, published in partnership with Springer, launched in Fall 2017. This series is designed to support pharmaceutical scientists at the point of knowledge transition. Whether shifting between positions, business models, research project objectives, or at a crossroad in professional development, scientists often need to retool to meet the requirements of the new scientific challenges ahead of them. These educational pivot points require scientists to develop new vocabulary to effectively communicate across disciplines, appreciate historical evolution within the knowledge area to grasp current limitations and potential for growth, and learn new skills and evaluation metrics so that project planning and subsequent evolution are evidence based. In addition, they will need to “dust off the rust” of content learned in previous educational or employment settings or used during former scientific explorations. The Introductions book series meets these needs and serves as a quick and easy-to-digest resource for contemporary science.
The first two books in this series were published earlier this year. Pharmaceutical Powder and Particles, by Anthony J. Hickey and Stefano Giovagnoli, serves as a succinct review of a variety of facets of powder and particle systems and their essential quality indicators. The book targets scientists who focus on the control of product quality and performance. Introduction to Biologic and Biosimilar Product Development and Analysis, by Karen M. Nagel, is designed to assist scientists transitioning from small molecule to biologics processing, analysis, and delivery. The book focuses on peptides, proteins, and monoclonal antibodies.
Additional books will be published in the upcoming months, including a two-part book series entitled Solid Oral Dose Process Validation: Volume 1: The Basics of Solid Oral Dose Process Validation and Volume 2: Lifecycle Approach Application, by Ajay Babu Pazhayattil, Naheed Sayeed-Desta, Emilija Fredro-Kumbaradzi, and Jordan Collins. The textbook and resource Essential Pharmaceutics, by Ashlee D. Brunaugh, Hugh D.C. Smyth, and Robert O. Williams III, is also anticipated in early 2019.
Book proposals are welcome from authors/author teams across all areas of pharmaceutical sciences. The books are typically 100 to 150 pages in length and are intended to use a “zero-depth pool” method to guide scientists into a new area of pharmaceutical science. We anticipate the audience for these books will range from graduate students to mid-level scientists, including those serving in supervisory roles. While publishing books in a timely fashion is one of our primary goals, deadlines remain flexible to allow for changes in priorities and workload.
