2019 PharmSci 360 Plenary Speakers
Opening Plenary, Sunday, November 3
Peter Agre, M.D.
Corecipient of the 2003 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for elucidating how water is transported into and out of the cells of the body. It was long suspected that cell membranes must contain specific water channels, but it was not until 1988 that Agre isolated a membrane protein that he later demonstrated to be the channel. Agre shared the 2003 Nobel with Roderick MacKinnon who used X-ray crystallography to determine the structure and function of ion (salt) channels. Together Agre’s and MacKinnon’s discoveries explain how biological fluids are generated from salt and water.
Don’t miss this once in a lifetime talk at our opening session on Sunday, November 4!
Closing Plenary, Wednesday, November 6
Vivek Murthy, M.D.
19th Surgeon General of the United States from December 2014 to April 2017. As The Nation’s Doctor, he brought both passion and innovation to the challenges of leading America’s national health care initiatives. During his tenure, he issued the first-ever Surgeon General’s Report on Alcohol, Drugs, and Health, calling the nation to action. He launched the national TurnTheTideRx campaign to address the opioid crisis, and he was the first Surgeon General to issue a letter to health professionals across America calling them to action to reduce opioid addiction and overdose deaths. Throughout his career, Murthy has led the way in medical education, social action, and health care dialogue, cofounding several health care community organizations and grassroots citizen movements. Prior to becoming Surgeon General, Murthy practiced and taught internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
Katherine A. High, M.D.
An accomplished hematologist with a long-standing interest in gene therapy for genetic disease, High began her career studying the molecular basis of blood coagulation and the development of novel therapeutics for the treatment of bleeding disorders. Her pioneering bench-to-bedside studies of gene therapy for hemophilia led to a series of studies that characterized the human immune response to adeno-associated viral vectors in a variety of target tissues. High’s work has evolved to encompass clinical translation of potential gene therapies for multiple inherited disorders. As the director of the Center for Cellular and Molecular Therapeutics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, High assembled a multidisciplinary team of scientists and researchers working to discover new gene and cell therapies for genetic diseases and to facilitate rapid translation of preclinical discoveries into clinical application.

Posters at AAPS PharmSci 360
1,400+ scientific posters under one roof!
The 1,400+ scientific posters will be sorted into neighborhoods in the Solution Center based on their track and topic. You can view a poster when it is scheduled, or look it up at any time the Solution Center is open in the Poster Café. Poster terminals are available until 9:30 am each day. You can use any terminal during the first hour of the morning to look up any poster.
How to Use a Poster Forum
Each neighborhood in the Solution Center has at least one poster forum, where posters related to that track are displayed. Poster forums are clearly defined, intimate conversational spaces. It is your chance to talk casually with authors and other attendees! Each poster forum contains digital monitors, and each monitor displays a specific poster for 60 minutes.
Poster Forums by Track
- Formation and Quality—Forums 1–7
- Manufacturing and Bioprocessing—Forum 8
- Preclinical Development—Forums 9 and 10
- Bioanalytics—Forums 11 and 12
- Clinical Pharmacology—Forum 13
Add a poster forum to your schedule in the PharmSci 360 app!
How to Find a Specific Poster
Each poster forum will have new authors each hour beginning at 9:30 am on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. To find a specific poster, look for its poster number on the AAPS PharmSci 360 app. The poster number contains the following information:

Day(s) = M (Monday), T (Tuesday), W (Wednesday)
- Start time = The time the session begins in 24-hour time.
- Forums = 01–13
- Monitor # = The number of the monitor from 1–97
Poster Café: See Any and Every Poster
No time to visit a forum? Need to see EVERY poster? Visit the Poster Café, which has table-top terminals you can use to look up any poster at any time. You can easily search by track or skim the entire collection.
