More recent honors include dedication of the September 2012 issue of Pharmaceutical Research and the September 2013 issue of Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences; selection for the 2013 AAPS Journal Manuscript Award, ISSX North American Achievement Award in 2015, and the Remington Honor Medal of APhA in 2016, American Pharmacy’s highest award. Benet has published over 580 scientific articles and book chapters, holds 12 patents, and edited 7 books. Clarivate Analytics lists him among the most highly cited pharmacologists worldwide with his peer reviewed publications referenced on more than 28,000 occasions.
Marilyn Morris, Ph.D., FAAPS, SUNY University of Buffalo
Marilyn Morris is SUNY Distinguished Professor and chair in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences University at Buffalo, State University of New York (SUNY). Her research focuses on the influence of drug transporters on drug pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and the identification of transporters as therapeutic targets. She is a Fellow of AAPS, as well as the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Research, AAPS National Biotechnology Conference Innovations in Biotechnology Award (2015), AAPS Research Achievement Award in PPDM (2016), and AAPS Distinguished Service Award (2018). She is a past AAPS president, and currently serves as an elected member of the International Pharmaceutical Federation’s Board of Pharmaceutical Sciences, as well as a member of the NIH XNDA study section. She has published 185 peer-reviewed publications, 15 book chapters, and is the coeditor of the book Drug Transporters: Molecular Characterization and Role in Drug Disposition, and associate editor of The AAPS Journal. Morris has served as the major advisor of 30 Ph.D. students and many M.S., Pharm.D., and undergraduate students, and previously served as Associate Dean of the Graduate School at the University at Buffalo.

We all need to find faster and more efficient routes in the development of new drugs and the support of approved products. This forum provides a one-of-a-kind, peer-to-peer learning experience! The practical approaches for the selected topics are seldom the subject of publications and often deal with material and experiences that cannot be published. Thus, the verbal peer-to-peer discussions are the most effective and rapid means of information sharing.
Sessions include:
- Pediatric Development
- ICH Q12 Implementation
- Human Factor Studies
- Oligonucleotides

Crystal City VII: Bioanalytical Method Validation for the Analysis of Biotherapeutics by LC-MS
June 15–17, 2020
Sheraton Silver Spring
Silver Spring, Md.
Traditionally, bioanalysis of biotherapeutics has been conducted using ligand binding assays. While these assays are considered the gold standard in bioanalysis of proteins and large molecules, they require high quality reagents and the quality of data is directly dependent on these reagents. In the last few years, liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS) has emerged as an alternative approach for the bioanalysis of biotherapeutics and is becoming more mature in the regulated environment. While Food and Drug Administration Bioanalytical Method Validation guidance (May 2018) clearly delineates the requirements for method validation using chromatographic and ligand binding assays for small molecules and large molecules, respectively, there is a lack of clarity for LC-MS analysis of biotherapeutics. In the last few months, a need for further clarification of the regulatory requirements for these assays have been raised by the industry. It is now time to have a Crystal City-type meeting that will engage a dialogue between the industry experts in this field and the regulators to clarify the regulatory requirements for the validation of these assays in support of subsequent successful filings.
Join your peers for engaging dialogue with industry experts in this field along with regulators to clarify the regulatory requirements for the validation of these assays in support of subsequent successful filings.

Three pillars of Applied Bioanalysis: Science, Technology, and Regulations
The Land O’Lakes conference series is recognized worldwide as one of the premier teaching conferences for bioanalytical and pharmaceutical scientists. The Annual Bioanalytical Conference is a three-day conference to discuss innovation, challenges, and applications associated with the analysis of xenobiotics, metabolites, biologics, and biomarkers in biological matrices. This conference facilitates an open exchange of scientific and methodological applications for bioanalysis and provides a forum for interaction with regulators from multiple agencies. The program is an interactive mixture of lectures, panel discussions, poster sessions, and optional preconference workshops.

Analytical Issues Associated with Unique Dosage Forms and Regulatory Challenges
The purpose of this three-day conference is to provide an educational forum to discuss issues and applications related to pharmaceutical analysis. The conference connects leaders together to share new scientific and regulatory developments in the areas related to or with direct application for pharmaceutical analysis, product development, product quality, and the analytical method lifecycle applications.
The Land O’ Lakes Pharmaceutical Analysis Conference is well-recognized as one of the premier teaching conferences for colleagues in the pharmaceutical industry. Attendees are primarily from the pharmaceutical industry (worldwide) but also include those affiliated with governmental agencies as well as academia.
Conference Objectives
- Discuss and evaluate new and unique pharmaceutical dosage forms.
- Evaluate issues associated with in vitro testing of drug product performance.
- Describe key new technologies and approaches for increasing laboratory efficiency.
- Discuss issues associated with product containers and closure mechanisms.
- Evaluate possible answers to major global regulatory challenges to pharmaceutical analysis.
