Key Areas of Focus for 2021
By Andrew M. Vick, Ph.D., AAPS President
Welcome to a New Year. I want to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your accomplishments in 2020: at home, in the office, and in support of AAPS! 2020 was a year defined by difficulties, but I saw our industry and our Association rise to those challenges and demonstrate great resiliency in doing so, and each of us grew in ways that I believe will transform our journey going forward. I am excited for what 2021 has in store for us—both the accomplishments and the new challenges we will face together.
In the spirit of accomplishments (and possibly some challenges), I am thrilled to be serving as the President of AAPS in 2021. I have been a member and volunteer leader of AAPS for approximately 25 years and taking on the role of President will allow me to serve and support the people, profession, and the Association that have contributed so strikingly to my life and work.
Our journey this year will continue to be marked by changes. A change in public office, in our response to COVID-19, in our “working from home” status, in technology, and more. AAPS will continue to respond and react to such changes in ways that ensure AAPS remains connected to its aspirational and influential vision—“advancing the pharmaceutical sciences to drive prevention and cures.” I am confident that we will provide the leadership and tools that AAPS needs as it continues to navigate this dynamic period in history where our ability to adapt will not be optional, but vital to our success as a profession and organization.
Key areas of focus for 2021
AAPS is changing to meet the needs of today’s members, who work in a very different world than the one that existed when we formed the association decades ago. This year, AAPS will:
- Partner with staff and volunteer leaders to drive change for the Association
- Advance the mission of AAPS and oversee implementation of its strategic plan
- Focus on the needs of our members and create value that exceeds their expectations
- Expand AAPS’ member-oriented content and benefits
- Further our reach through collaborations with other science-based associations
What do you think about these areas of focus? Please always feel free to share your thoughts (president@aaps.org), or you could start a conversation on an AAPS Community!
I am so excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and the future of AAPS. I appreciate your continued partnership as we advance the mission and vision of AAPS today and for future generations.
Thank you,
Andy
