In March 2021, Claudio Salomon, Ph.D., was appointed as editor-in-chief of the AAPS Introductions in the Pharmaceutical Sciences book series, which is published in collaboration with Springer. Salomon is a full professor in the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Biochemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the National University of Rosario, Rosario, Argentina. He is also a principal investigator for the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) in Argentina.
Salomon earned his doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Rosario and completed postdoctoral programs at the University of Duesseldorf, Germany; Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel; and University of Kansas.
He is also an editor for AAPS PharmSciTech, and is currently organizing the theme issue Recent Advances on Drug Delivery Systems for Viral Infections. Salomon is on the editorial boards for Pharmaceutical Development and Technology, Molecules, and Scientia Pharmaceutica.
His research is multi-disciplinary and covers the development of drug delivery systems with an emphasis on modified release dosage forms, microencapsulation techniques applied to drugs and microorganisms, and pharmaceutical nanotechnology. In recent years, his research has focused on the development of novel platform technologies for the treatment of several neglected diseases, including Chagas disease.
The Introductions book series published its first book in 2018 under the leadership of Robin Zavod, Ph.D. Salomon plans to continue this series as a “forum of innovative and leading research on pharmaceutical sciences for a wide audience of students, researchers, scientists, and teachers.” He notes that “the pharmaceutical sciences are an integrated field of study targeting innovation, synthesis, manufacture, and identification of application for pharmaceutical agents to treat diseases and promote human health.” The books published in this Introductions book series require “integration and application of these basic sciences,” Salomon explains in his vision for the series.
Salomon was chosen as editor after an application process overseen by Carolyn Spence from Springer, Catherine Abbott, AAPS Director of Publications and Communications, and Bernd Meibohm, Ph.D., Associate Dean, Graduate Programs and Research, College of Pharmacy, University of Tennessee Health Science Center, past AAPS Member-at-Large, and associate editor for The AAPS Journal.
