Drug Transporters in ADME: From the Bench to the Bedside returns in 2020 with more programming, science and networking! This long-running workshop series brings together leaders in the transporter field sto connect, share, and contribute to the body of scientific knowledge.
Join experts from industry, academia, and regulatory agencies to explore:
- transporter and transporter regulation in traditional and nontraditional tissues and barriers,
- transporters as novel drug targets,
- recent advances in in-vitro, in-vivo interactions (IVIVE) for predicting drug transporter-mediated clearance and drug-drug interactions (DDI),
- novel humanized transporter animal models, and
- current FDA/EMA regulatory perspectives regarding DDI guidances and in vitro transporter studies.
Keynote Presentations and Hot Topics
Join us for a stimulating keynote presentation on the past, present, and future of transporters given by University of Washington, Department of Pharmaceutics Professor Jashvant Unadkat.
The workshop will also focus on various hot topics in the field. Presentations will include:
- albumin-facilitated drug uptake,
- biomarkers and preclinical species for predicting OATP-mediated DDIs,
- transporters/albumin effects / IVIVE in CKD,
- tissue vs. cell concentrations and
- atorvastatin physiologically based pharmacokinetic model incorporating acid/lactone conversion and delayed gastric emptying.

Three pillars of Applied Bioanalysis: Science, Technology, and Regulations
The Land O’Lakes conference series is recognized worldwide as one of the premier teaching conferences for bioanalytical and pharmaceutical scientists. The Annual Bioanalytical Conference is a three-day conference to discuss innovation, challenges, and applications associated with the analysis of xenobiotics, metabolites, biologics, and biomarkers in biological matrices. This conference facilitates an open exchange of scientific and methodological applications for bioanalysis and provides a forum for interaction with regulators from multiple agencies. The program is an interactive mixture of lectures, panel discussions, poster sessions, and optional preconference workshops.
Conference Objectives:
- Gain insight into challenges and solutions encountered in bioanalysis during the drug discovery development and identify process improvement opportunities.
- Explore new bioanalytical technologies and their applications in drug discovery and development.
- Discuss current global regulatory topics affecting bioanalysis.
- Provide a forum for learning, networking, and exchanging ideas and solutions in bioanalysis.
- Discuss advances of bioanalysis in gene therapy, digital PCR, Nab/companion diagnostics, vectors, and branched DNA. Explore patient-centric sampling opportunities for the pharmaceutical industry and discuss innovation in proteomics research and how this impacts drug development.

New Track added for 2020 PharmSci 360 Focuses on Early Discovery
AAPS has added a sixth track to PharmSci 360! The AAPS Scientific Programming Committee (SPC) and the Board of Directors have announced the addition of the
Discovery and Basic Research (DBR) Track. The new track will be introduced at the 2020 event. Unlike the other five tracks, it is not divided between chemical and biomolecule areas.
AAPS will also restructure two existing tracks:
- Formulation and Quality will become Formulation and Delivery
- Manufacturing and Bioprocessing will become Manufacturing and Analytical Characterization
PharmSci 360’s other tracks are:
- Preclinical Development
- Bioanalytics
- Clinical Pharmacology

Discovery and Basic Research Track Description
Basic research advances fundamental knowledge and predictions that form the scientific foundation for progress in applied science. Discovery research leads to new scientific ideas, theories, applications, and ways of thinking that form the basis of growth and development in different fields. Generating this critical knowledge is the first step toward therapeutic innovation, providing new tools, and stimulation for new approaches to novel drugs and their development. Most basic research is conducted by universities and other nonprofit organizations. Without essential breakthroughs in discovery and basic research, the advancement of subsequent applied research toward novel therapies becomes stifled. Thus, discovery and basic research are key elements for both advancing science and identifying new approaches in the prevention and treatment of human disease.
In the context of drug development, discovery, and basic research provides the scientific framework for introducing novel therapeutics and implementing their application. Examples of discovery and basic research include, but are not limited to, identification and characterization of novel targets, receptors and signaling pathways; discovery and optimization of novel hit, lead, and drug candidate molecules; novel formulation approaches; innovative delivery devices; the study and characterization of drug metabolizing enzymes and transporters; as well as understanding the underlying disease biology and pathophysiology.
